The Julie Rogers “Gift of Life” Program will honor nearly 150 breast and prostate cancer survivors from Southeast Texas during its annual Survivors’ Celebration, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, in the Parkdale Mall Garden Court.

Jackie Simien, former KFDM-TV Channel 6 News Anchor, will emcee the program that will include welcoming comments by “Gift of Life” Board President Nell McCallum Morris, followed by heartfelt messages of hope and healing from breast and ovarian cancer survivor and “Gift of Life” Board Member, Georgie Volz, and a “call to care” from prostate cancer survivor David Bernsen, a local attorney and advocate for early detection through prostate cancer screening and education.

The organization’s cancer initiative has benefited from the continual generosity of mobile mammography van sponsor TOTAL Port Arthur Refinery, and Prostate Cancer Support Group sponsors Capital One and Beaumont Coca-Cola Bottling Company. The celebration will culminate with an inspirational song by vocalist Pamela Jones-Polk. After the program, guests will enjoy refreshments from H-E-B, Chick-fil-A Parkdale, Something Special Bake Shoppe, Great American Cookies, Beaumont Coca-Cola Bottling Company, and Texas Coffee Company. Door prizes will be distributed.

In conjunction with the event, the organization will host a mobile mammography van site from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., also at Parkdale Mall. Approximately 37 Southeast Texas women, who do not have insurance or are underinsured, have been scheduled to receive free mammograms and clinical breast exams on the UTMB van, the Oleander.

"We are so proud to be a part of this program that makes available lifesaving services, such as free mammography screenings and educational outreach for medically underserved individuals in our community," said Pat Avery, TOTAL Administrative Manager. “Through early detection of breast cancer at mobile van sites, we are helping to extend the lives of Southeast Texas women."

Since 2002, TOTAL has been a “valued partner” sponsoring over seven (7) van sites that provided almost 275 free screenings to people who need medical help, stated, Charlotte Simoneaux, Mammography Service Coordinator.
