Lamar University Homecoming 2008 will bring alumni together Friday through Sunday, Feb. 22-24, for a weekend of reunions, receptions, recognition, athletic action and other activities.
Highlights include the 50th-Anniversary reunion of the Class of 1958, the 45th-Anniversary reunion of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and a reunion of computer science alumni. The Music Hall of Honor will induct its second class of award recipients, and the Homecoming basketball game will feature performances by band and choral alumni.
The weekend begins with Class of 1958 and Zeta Tau Alpha alumni welcome parties Friday, Feb. 22. Class members will get together at 6:30 p.m. in the University Reception Center in the Mary and John Gray Library, while the Zetas will gather at 7 p.m. in the Dishman Art Museum .
Activities Saturday, Feb. 23, include separate campus bus tours for the three reunion groups, beginning at 9 a.m.; the Class of 1958 luncheon, which gets underway at 11:30 p.m. in the Dishman Art Museum; and the Music Hall of Honor luncheon and ceremony at noon in the University Reception Center, on the eighth floor of the Mary and John Gray Library.
Jeff Laird of Spring and Don Rollins of Nashville , Tenn. , are the 2008 Music Hall of Honor inductees. Laird is in his fourth year as director of secondary performing arts for the Aldine School district , after serving for 18 years as Aldine’s director of bands. Rollins is an educator, musician and Grammy Award-winning songwriter who worked for 17 years as a band director in Texas schools.
Computer science alumni will attend a reception at 5 p.m. and a dinner at 7 p.m. in the University Reception Center . Meanwhile, a pre-game party for the Class of 1958, Zeta Tau Alpha and music alumni will start at 6 p.m. in the Red Room of the Montagne Center . 
Men’s basketball action gets underway at 7 p.m. when the Cardinals take on the Demons of Northwestern Louisiana State. Music alumni will perform with the Pep Band during the game.
Zeta Tau Alpha will host a brunch at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, in the University Reception Center .
