This season  blasts all records for Bridge City High School’s powerlifters.

“Bridge City sent a school record 16 lifters to regionals, and eight girls,” said Coach Kevin Jones.

After coming out on top at the Regional Championship this past week,, Bridge City will be sending six boys and six girls to the state competition later this month.

“It’s kind of a big deal,” said Jones.

This was the first regional win for the girls in over 15 years. They defeated 43 other teams in Palacios Thursday.  Outlifting all teams from 1A to 5A for the overall Regional Championship.  Six of the eight girls sent to regional are headed to the state competition in Killeen on March 15.

The boys met in Coldspring Saturday to defend their regional title from last year. They held on to their crown as they dominated all the 3A teams in our region. Bridge City boys had never won a championship until 2007. Winning this year puts them in a club that has few members.

“Hitchcok and Palacios are the only other teams to have ever won the Championship back to back,” said Jones.

The boy Cardinals took four first place and two second place finishes and earned an impressive 44 points. Six members of the team will be heading to Abilene for the State Meet scheduled for March 29.

Vidor was the Division I runner up to 5A winner Alvin.
