W. E. “Bill” Berry, 85, of Orange , passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008 in Orange .
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 8, 2008 in the Chapel of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange . Officiating will be Brother John Fortenberry, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Deweyville. Military honors and interment will follow at the New Miller Cemetery in Starks, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
Born on October 18, 1922 in Starks, Louisiana to Ebb and Donnie Mae (Derr) Berry, he was a longtime resident of the Orange area, worked as a sales representative for a used car dealership, did bush hogging and tractor work and he also sold metal detectors and was a staff sergeant and radar technician of the Untied States Army Air Corp during World War II. Mr. Berry was a people person who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening where he enjoyed growing mayhaw bushes and muscadine grapes. Mr. Berry believed that if it did not provide shade or food then it did not need growing.
Mr. Berry is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Virginia Pauline Berry and his siblings, Lucille Bickham, Leona Husband, Vannie Berry , Carl Berry and Vareece Berry . He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Shelton of Orange; son, Michael Berry and wife Barbara of Pasadena, Texas; brother, Johnny Berry of Starks, Louisiana; grandchildren, Lisa Roberts of Orange and Christopher and Rebecca Berry both of Pasadena, Texas; great-grandsons, Cody and Ty Roberts both of Orange and very special friend, Irene Viator of Orange. Pallbearers will be Christopher Berry, Michael Berry, Jimmy Dillon, Jerry Harrison, Ty Roberts and Cody Roberts.
