West Orange – Stark High School students earned top honors in the news writing and calculator events of the Sabine Pass UIL Academic Practice Meet held last weekend.
Shonnalee Jacobsearned first place honors in News Writing, while Kayla Griffin placed first in the individual Calculator competition. Griffin, along with Rick Warnell and Emilee Yaw also earned the 1st place calculator team honor. 
Rick Warnell placed earned second place honors in two math events: Number Sense and Calculator.   
Jacobs also placed in a second journalism event, earning fourth place in Feature Writing.
In Prose competition, Samantha Bailey placed third; while Danielle Self placed sixth.
Brandi O’Quinn placed third in Literary Criticism. James Williamson placed sixth in the same event. The Literary Criticism team of Williamson, O’Quinn, Tinesha Mix and Katherine Long took 2nd place.
WO-S High School sponsors are Meri Elen Jacobs, journalism and literary criticism; Brandi Bonnin, prose; and Penny Franklin, number sense and calculator. Karen Beauxis is also math sponsor.
