At a special called meeting the Pinehurst City Council went into closed session and discussed rescinding the appointment of Dan Robertson as Municipal Judge.

There were two other items discussed in the closed session. One was the appointment of a Municipal Judge and the other was compensation of the temporary judge.

When the council reconvened in open session the motion was made and passed to rescind the appointment of Dan Robertson as temporary Municipal Judge.

The council then passed a motion to appoint Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Derry Dunn as temporary Municipal Judge for the City of Pinehurst.

The issue of compensation for the temporary judge was tabled.

Judge Dunn volunteered to fill the bench for the city on a temporary basis until a permanent Municipal Judge can be hired.

There will be no conflict in court scheduling since the Justice of the Peace courts are held in the mornings and the City courts will be held on Monday and Thursday afternoons.

City Administrator Dan Robertson said, “the city felt it was not the best scenario for me to continue as City Administrator, Police Chief and Temporary Municipal Judge. It was not illegal, it just was not best for the City.”

Judge Dunn will begin his new duties on Thursday, April 3.
