An online web educational program on forage and beef production will be conducted on April 8 & 10, 2008 at the Jefferson County Office of the Texas AgriLIFE Extension Service, 1225 Pearl Street – Suite 200, Beaumont. Each evening’s program will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. and last for two hours. There will be no charge for the two sessions and no meal will be served. But seating is limited, so participants are required to RSVP in advance by telephone (409) 835-8461 or email k-boldt@tamu.edu. CEUs will be offered.
 
The APRIL 8 session will feature the following AgriLIFE Extension specialists:
*Dr. Mark McFarland – Extension Soil Fertility Specialist – soil fertility principles and strategies for dealing with high fertilizer prices.
*Dr. Paul Baumann, Extension Weed Specialist – weed control and herbicide updates.
 
Speakers and their topics for the APRIL 10 session are as follows:
*Dr. Larry Redmon – Extension Forage Specialist – growth and development of forages
*Dr. Jason Cleere, Extension Beef Cattle Specialist – how to maximize beef production
 
Physical Meetings:
The Southeast Texas Chapter of the Independent Cattlemen’s Association will be hosting two membership meetings this month. The first meeting will be held on April 14 at the Jefferson County Office of the Texas AgriLIFE Extension Service, 1225 Pearl Street-Suit 200, Beaumont. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. and will feature speakers on controlling horn flies with Altosid and the nutritional needs of cattle, grazing habits, importance of body condition of cattle, pasture quality and quantity. One CEU will be offered.
The second meeting will be held on April 21 at the Winnie Community Building in Winnie. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. and will feature speakers on worming programs, and Trichomoniasis, commonly referred to as "Trich". It is a disease of cattle that causes infertility, open cows, and occasional abortions in cows and heifers. RSVP requested for both meetings by calling (409) 866-8271.
