WHO: Panelists for the Forum will represent Students, Teachers, Principals, Substance Abuse Counselors, and Community Activist

WHY: The Golden Triangle is one of hundreds of communities nationwide that will hold community meetings to address underage drinking and youth drug use. The community focus forum is to help raise awareness about this important issue and provide information about the ways in which families and communities can combat substance abuse through communication, prevention and intervention efforts. RADAAC, in collaboration with the Federal Government’s Interagency Coordinating Committee for the Prevention of Underage Drinking, Beaumont I.S.D. and Communities In Schools is sponsoring the event. Parents, teachers, officials, youth, and other community members will be educated about the impact that underage drinking and other drug use has on the community, and they will develop possible ways to address these issues.

According to national surveys administered to eighth graders, about one in twenty (5.5 percent) reported being drunk at least once in the past month. Nearly one out of every five 10th graders (18.1 percent) and about three out of every ten 12th graders, (28.7 percent) reported being drunk at least once in the last month.

After the meeting, guest panelist and RADAAC members will be available for questions and interviews.
