The Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School Chamber Choir won sweepstakes at this year’s UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest held on Friday, April 4. Choirs are ranked from 1 to 5 by three different judges in each portion of the contest, with 1 being the best a choir can make. The three scores are then averaged giving the group its score.  The LCM group received a 1, 1, and 2 in concert, which gave them a 1 on Stage. In sight-reading, all three judges awarded 1’s. When a choir receives 1’s for both portions of the contest, they receive a Sweepstakes award.

The contest selections included: Festival Sanctus – John Leavitt; Let Beauty Awake – Michael Larkin; and Ding-a Ding-a Ding – Greg Gilpin. The last time LCM High School made a sweepstakes in Choir was 1999. Meredith Johnson directs the LCM choirs and Rhonda Willey is the accompanist.
