Bridge City P.A.W.S. Update
Bridge City P.A.W.S. is planning fundraisers and working with the city on new ordinances for dogs.
There is a garage sale planned for April 30 to raise funds for P.A.W.S., the funds will then be used for improvements at the city animal shelter. Along with the garage sale there will also be a link sale and a bake sale.
The sales will be held at the property of the Durso family on FM 1442, across from the Cardinal Fireworks building.
P.A.W.S. is hoping to work with the city council on the adoption of some new ordinances concerning the ownership of dogs in the city. One proposal is that the cost of license for dogs in the city be raised to $5.00 for spayed/neutered dogs and $10.00 for unspayed/neutered dogs. There will be consideration of a $26.00 adoption fee for dogs adopted from the city animal shelter, as well as the possibility of an adoption package of shots and worming being done on dogs to be adopted. A limit on the number of dogs is another possible ordinance. The proposed limit is four dogs per owner.
A ban on tethering dogs is also being discussed. Tethering dogs can be a Class C Misdemeanor punishable by a $500.00 fine for the first offense.
Items under discussion would require a workshop with city council before proposals could be considered for ordinances.
The work on improvements on the shelter is progressing with the new roof being completed and some new ceiling being installed. Fencing has been donated and the arrangements for installation of the fencing being made.
There is discussion of a sponsorship of kennels at the shelter. The funds would be used by P.A.W.S. for improvements. Proposed amounts could be $10.00 for one month, $50.00 for six months and $100.00 for one year. The sponsor?s name would be placed on the kennel as recognition.
