Representatives from the Texas State Bank, Orange Branch, presented the Lorena Oates Elementary Library with the children’s book Rosa recently.

The book Rosa is written by Nikki Giovanni and illustrated by Bryan Collier. It tells the story of Rosa Parks who is still one of the most important figures in the American civil rights movement.

Book illustrator Bryan Collier is both an author and illustrator. His illustrations are currently on exhibit at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas in Beaumont.

He was won the Coretta Scott King Award and the Ezra Jack Keats Book Award. He is also the illustrator of Martin’s Big Words, which was a Caldecott Honor Book.

Collier’s exhibit in Beaumont is entitled Defining Moments. The exhibit will run until May 3.
