Four Little Cypress-Mauriceville students were selected as local winners in the 2008 “Do the Write Thing” Challenge. Paul Daleo and Sierra Locke of Mauriceville Middle School and Travis Coffey and Bethany Slaten of Little Cypress Junior High were selected for the essays that they wrote that addressed how to affect youth violence.

“Do the Write Thing” was founded in 1996 by the National Campaign to Stop Violence. It is designed to give middle school students the opportunity to examine the impact of youth violence. It is supported by the Criminal Justice Division, Office of the Governor and is funded by the Peace Memorial Fund, a project of the Kuwait-American Foundation in gratitude to America for the liberation of the State of Kuwait.
