Sarah Elise Kain has been named as the Valedictorian of the 2008 graduating class at Community Christian School. She is the daughter of Richard and Cynthia Kain of Orange.

Kain has attended CCS for all of her school years, starting with Pre-K. She is graduating with a 3.98 GPA and has been named to the National Honor Roll since 2002. A member of the National Society of High School Scholars since 2004, she has been a member of the National Honor Society since 2006 when she served as the Chapter Vice President. Currently she is the Chapter President. Kain Joined the Student Government as a Class Representative in 2004 and is now the Student Body President. Since 2004 she has been named to Who’s Who among America’s High School Students. Among her other academic awards and activities she received the CCS Character Awards for “Godliness” and “Joy”. She has been a District Finalist in the Science Fair and has served as Newspaper Feature Editor and Yearbook Design Editor.

Kain has been a member of the Golf Team at CCs and received the Athletic Award for Varsity Golf plus, named the MVP for Girl’s Varsity Golf. In 2007 she was a TAAPS 1A All-State Golf Medalist and in 2008 she was a TAAPS 1A All-State Golf Finalist.
She has been heavily involved in many community service activities such as; working with the Salvation Army on several community projects, mission trips with her church, aiding Hurricane Katrina evacuees, repairing homes and doing yard work for the elderly.

Kain plans to attend Lamar University and pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with Studio Arts Emphasis and a Bachelor of Arts, 3-Dimensonial Automated Computer Assisted Drafting degree.

Her long range plan is to become a missionary to China.

Cory Rogers, the son of Vince and Mary Jane Rogers is the Salutatorian of the 2008 Senior Class of Community Christian School. He has been a student at CCS for 12 years and is serving as Vice President of the National Honor Society for the 2007-2008 school year. In 2006-2007 he was the President of the Chapter. He has won in the Science Fair at CCS and was a member of the Math Olympics. Rogers has been an Honor Roll student all his school career.

He is a past winner of the VFW’s “My Pledge to America” Patriotic Pen Program. His winning essay was entitled “Why I Love My Country”.

Rogers was named the December, 2007 Student of the Month by the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce.

He has been active in sports throughout his school years, playing soccer, baseball and basketball. This year he was the basketball Team Captain and the MVP. For the 2008-2009 school year he will volunteer as an assistant basketball coach.

His plans are to work in the family business for the summer and then to attend Lamar University-Orange. Rogers would like to become a coach. He is an avid fan of the Houston Rockets and the Dallas Cowboys.

Rogers is unique among graduates this year. He is the only boy in his graduating class.

Graduation at Community Christian School will be on May 30, at 7:00 p.m.
