Anderson Elementary receives U.S. Army National Guard award
Anderson Elementary has received an award from the United States Army National Guard’s Charlie Battery 1/133 Field Artillery unit.
The unit returned to the States recently after a one year deployment in Iraq. At the homecoming event held at Lamar’s McDonald Gym Tuesday, May 13, the Army unit presented an appreciation award to Anderson Elementary for the support the school had provided.
The award reads “In appreciation for your dedication and support to the men and women of the Army National Guard who serve to defend freedom.”
The award is a mosaic of a waving American Flag. The mosaic is actually comprised of hundreds of small individual photographs of the unit while at work in Iraq.
Anderson Elementary’s Benny Smith said, “We are grateful to receive this award from the National Guard. We at Anderson Elementary School are extremely honored to have been a part of their deployment to Iraq. The students and staff both participated in letter writing and sending care packages to troops. We support their bravery and diligence.”
