Rose Thayer Academy of Dance celebrated its 25th anniversary in May 17 with a dancer reunion and plans to open a second location in Orangefield.

Former students recently returned to perform at the Lutcher Theater.
“It was great to see some of my past students and see where life has lead them,” said Thayer.

During the show, Thayer announced a second location to serve the Orangefield/Bridge City areas. This location will offer ballet, tap, jazz, clogging and gymnastics with many of the same teachers popular with the Orange students.

“Our community continues to grow at an astonishing rate,” Thayer said. “I felt there was a need to expand to these areas to offer the same great classes that are offered at our 16th Street location but with a more convenient location for parents.”

Thayer’s mother founded Yocum’s Photo Center in 1942, which served the area for more than 50 years. Rose earned her bachelor’s in fine arts degree from the University of Houston and returned to Orange. In 1982, she opened her studio and has taught dance to generations of families.

The academy studios in Orange are at 1201 16th St. For more information, go to visit
