Bennie Joseph “Uncle Bennie” Himel, 81, of Deweyville, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008 in Deweyville. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 26, 2008 in the Chapel of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange . Officiating will be Reverend Damon Bickham, pastor of First Baptist Church in Deweyville. Interment will follow at King Cemetery in Hartburg. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Born on November 7, 1926 in Franklin, Louisiana to Wilfred and Daisy Ann (Blanchard) Himel, he was a longtime resident of the Deweyville community, he worked as a machinist and a mechanic for the C and B Trucking Company in Orange, he was a member of the Catholic faith and a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Himel was a simple and quiet man who was a past fire chief for the Deweyville Volunteer Fire Department and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Himel is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Effie Himel. Those who will most cherish his memory are his companion, Lillian Hartley of Deweyville; sister, Theresa Swift of Orange ; special daughter, Verna Ahlborn and her husband Patrick of Deweyville; godson, Rick Roy; nephews, Jerry Moore of Buna and Phillip Reeves of Deweyville; nieces, Marie Morris and Rhonda Murray.
