Bridge City Reunion planned class of 1957-61

The Bridge City High School Classes of 1957 through 1961 are planning a 50 year reunion honoring the class of 1958. The reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 in the Bridge City High School cafeteria area from 6:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. They will have “Oldies but Goodies” music provided by Dana Melancon of  KBTV.

Bridge City Class 1977 Reunion Cruise

The class of 1977 is sponsoring a cruise Nov. 5, 2009 from Galveston to Cozumel, Mexico. Bridge City Class of 1998 Reunion

The Bridge City Class of 1998 will be holding a 10-year reunion the weekend of July 25-26. Activities will include: Friday, July 25, “Meet  and Greet” at Madison’s at 4020 Dowlen Road in Beaumont, 8 p.m.-until. Saturday, July 26, meet at Bridge City Park (near Community Center) from 11 a.m.-2 p.m,. there will be a family picnic and games (children welcome). There will be washers, horseshoes, etc. Please bring your own picnic lunch. Reunion will be 7 p.m.-12 a.m., located at Associated Builders and Contractors of Southeast Texas (ABC) Banquet Room at 2700 North Twin City Highway, Nederland. The theme is Casino Real’. There will be casino style games for your entertainment, music, food and lots of fun! Sorry, no children. Bring your own bottle; set-ups provided- soft drinks, tea and ice. Cost at the door will be $30 per person and $45 per couple. All who pre-pay will receive a “Memory Book” and picture DVD at the reunion.

First Baptist Church-Orange VBS announced

Season Ticket Sales for 2008 O.H.S. Football

Orangefield High School Football previous season ticket holders may purchase their tickets August 6-15, Mon.-Fri. New purchases begin August 18-29, Mon.-Fri. Purchase times are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m at the high school office.

American Legion Post 49 to hold barbecue fundraiser

A Barbecue Brisket/Link Lunch Plate sale will be Friday Aug. 8 at the Orange American Legion Post 49.  Post 49 is located at 108 West Green Street close to Lamar College Orange.  Dine In or Take Out; free local delivery with five orders or more.  Along with barbeque brisket/links will be homemade potato salad, baked beans, pickles, onion and bread. Jefferson County Pony League registration scheduled

O.C.A.R.C. holds 21st Fishing Tournament

The 21st Annual O.C.A.R.C. Fishing Tournament will be held Aug. 1 and 2. Any fishing territory that is open to the general public are eligible waters to fish, including Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend. Entry Fee is $25.00. There will be 31 winners from 11 categories. Weigh-in site 6:00 p.m. Aug. 2, Adams Bayou at the D.E.R.A. on Irving Street. Winners receive cash and trophies. No 28” read fish, only Red Fish 20” to 27” are allowed.

It’s time for the Beaumont A&M Club and The Southeast Texas A&M Foundation annual combined Fishing Tournament and Golf Tournament on the third Saturday in August. Deadline for entry is Aug. 14 for this Amateur Tournament. There will also be a silent auction, food and drink. Weigh-in will be 12:30 p.m. til 2:20 p.m. at the S.A.L.T. Clubhouse on Pleasure Island. Proceeds are used to furnish scholarships to area seniors.

Eat pizza to help buy equipment

The Pinehurst Fire and Rescue Department is having a series of fund raisers to purchase needed equipment for the department and also to upgrade existing equipment.
The department will  have “Mazzio Nights” from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Aug. 11, Sept. 15, and Oct. 13 . Each night Mazzio’s Pizza in Orange will donate a portion of the proceeds collected during those three hours to the Pinehurst Fire and Rescue department.
Fire Chief Grady Gray and all the members of the department invite you to eat at Mazzio’s and help the department raise funds.

WO-S season tickets ready for sale

Season tickets are available for West Orange-Stark High School 2008 football. Previous season ticket holders should have received a letter with information concerning renewal. Forms should be filled out and returned to the athletic office. Season tickets will be mailed. Current season ticket holders can also purchase their 2008 football tickets during a two-day sale from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 5-6. Tickets can be purchased at the WO-S athletic office. Season tickets not claimed by 3 p.m. Aug. 6, will go on sale to the general public. Season ticket holders who need additional tickets or want to change seats may do so during general sales from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 12-13. Cost is $24 for six home games. After season ticket sales close, all tickets are $5. Student tickets are $2 per ticket pregame; they will not be sold at the gate. Because of 3A district reclassification, pre-district away games can be purchased at the athletic office during the week of the game. District away games must be bought at the home team’s gate the night of the game. Those prices will be $4 for adults and $2 for students.

BC Animal Hospital rabies clinic

A rabies clinic will be Aug. 1-2 at Bridge City Animal Hospital located at 2832 Texas Avenue.
Vaccinations are $8 and include bloodwork and a 25-percent discount off all other vaccinations. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 1, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 2.

LU seeks Move-In volunteers

Lamar University’s Office of Alumni Affairs seeks volunteers to welcome students to campus and help them move into residence halls for the fall semester. It’s all part of Move In 2008, set for Aug. 23. Students will arrive that day in preparation for the start of classes Aug. 25. Community volunteers will join alumni, faculty, staff and student organizations to welcome students and help them with the move to their new homes on campus. Volunteers are needed for 30-minute shifts between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The first 100 volunteers will receive free “Welcome Crew” T-shirts. All volunteers will be treated to free pizza and drinks from 10 a.m. to noon, compliments of Domino’s and Education First Federal Credit Union.

Retired teachers seeking members

Our local members do an outstanding job representing retired personnel in Austin at the Legislative Session and need your support.

Literacy service seeks volunteers 

Greater Orange Area Literacy Services needs volunteer tutors to help adults with English as a second language, basic reading, writing, math or GED preparation. Day or evening times are available Mondays through Thursdays. Training is provided with no prior experience necessary.

Ferry Drive Closure

Ferry Drive will be closed to through traffic because of street improvements estimated to take 18 to 24 months.
Also, no through traffic will be allowed on N. John St. Traffic should take Texas 87 to Farm Road 1442 / West Roundbunch Road. Detour maps available at City Hall, 260 Rachal St.
