Scrimmage action begins in hometown football
Your favorite hometown football teams will take the field this week in scrimmage action as the start of the 2008 football season counts down to season openers Aug. 29. The only exception is the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Battlin’ Bears who will begin their regular season against the West Orange-Stark Mustangs, Sept. 5.
This Saturday the WO-S Mustangs, Bridge City Cardinals, Orangefield Bobcats and Vidor Pirates will make contact in scrimmages at home and away.
The West Orange-Stark Mustangs go on the road to take on Dayton, Saturday at 7 p.m. The Mustangs kick off their season opener on the road as well against the Nederland Bulldogs, Aug. 29.
The Bridge City Cardinals will host Lumberton, Saturday. The freshman team gets started at 4 p.m. followed by the junior varsity at 5 p.m. The Cardinal varsity squad will take on the Raiders at 6 p.m. The Cardinals will open their season against the Liberty Panthers.
The Orangefield Bobcats will travel to Vidor to take on the Pirates, Saturday. The freshman team begins at 8 a.m., junior varsity starts at 9 a.m. and the varsity will take the field at 10 a.m. Orangefield will host Huffman for a scrimmage Aug. 21. The varsity scrimmage starts at noon. The Bobcats open their season against East Chambers.
The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Battlin’ Bears will travel to Silsbee for a scrimmage against the Tigers, Aug. 23, at 9 a.m. and will host Baytown Lee at 6 p.m. Aug. 28.
