William D. “Bill” Byerly, 85, of Orange, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at The Meadows. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, with the Rev. Lynn Ashcraft officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City, under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Born at Spindletop in Beaumont on Oct. 11, 1922, he was the son of Jesse V. and Ladema (Mayer) Byerly.

Mr. Byerly was a resident of Orange since 1944, and retired from DuPont Sabine River Works where he was a pre-planner.  He was a member of North Orange Baptist Church, the church choir and he was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corp. veteran.

Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Donald) Byerly; brothers, J. V. Byerly and Ernest Byerly; and sister, Dorothy Roussell. 

Mr. Byerly is survived by his sisters, Alice Marie Baker and Thelma Dell Smith, and her husband, Tilman, all of  Jasper; brother, Steve Byerly of Orange and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Byerly, George Bond, Ernest Egulf, Jay Leger and James Lee.

Honorary pallbearer will be Leothus “Tootsie” Jones
