A rare brain tumor was recently removed from Guy A. Whitford

of Bridge City. The 27 year old man had only the 51st recorded

instance of this type tumor according to records at the M. D. Anderson Cancer

Institute in Houston.

The recovery period has been long and expensive. After the

surgery on March 7 at St. Luke’s Hospital there were five months of

chemotherapy at M. D. Anderson.

Whitford’s family has been able to offset some of the costs

with a recently conducted raffle.

Tickets were sold with the winner of the raffle being able

to choose between a fresh water rod and reel combo, a salt water rod and reel

combo, or a $500 gift card.

The drawing was held at the Bridge City Fire Department on

August 15. The winning ticket was drawn by Lieutenant Dean Sasser, an Engineer

with the BCFD.
