LCM’s Dorman breaks school records in Burnett
Alex Dorman, Sophomore, represented LC-M at the 4A Southern Zone TISCA Swim Meet in Burnett, one of six elite meets held across the state.
Held at the Tex Robertson Aquatic Center inside the Galloway-Hammond Recreation Center 26 teams competed; including Texarkana, Brenham, Dripping Springs, Longview, Nacogdoches, Killeen, Wimberly, Marshall, San Marcus, and numerous teams from Austin.
Friday’s Goal For Dorman was to finish top 20 in the preliminary round in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle to make Saturday’s championship finals.
Friday, in the 200-yard freestyle, 53 swimmers entered, Dorman seeded 21st and finished 20th with a time of 2:12.50, barely qualifying for Saturday’s consolation heat.
In the 500-yard freestyle, 30 swimmers entered; Dorman seeded 11th and finished 10th with a time of 5:57.63, qualifying for Saturday’s championship heat.
Saturday, in the 200-yard freestyle, Dorman dropped 2.55 seconds from Friday’s preliminary round finishing with a time of 2:09.95, a personal best and a new school record. His overall finish was 18th out of 53 swimmers.
For the 500-yard freestyle, swimmers competing in the top 10 heat are paraded across the pool deck to music and their names and schools are recognized before the start of the race. Dorman dropped 4.83 seconds from Friday’s prelim round finishing with a time of 5:52.80, another personal best and new school record. His overall finish was ninth out of 30 swimmers.
Dorman scored a total of 16 points for the team.
The next meet is hosted by the Nederland swim team at Central Middle School on Saturday, Dec. 6.
