The Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce announced the winner of the Student of the Month Program for February 2009 is Jacob Gorton. 

Jacob is a senior at Deweyville High School and the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gorton.  He is described by his teachers and counselor as reliable, cooperative, dependable, has an excellent work ethic and is a pleasure to have in class. 

His awards include: Citizenship award his sophomore and junior years and ranks ninth in the Deweyville High School senior class. 

Jacob is also active in Community Christian Church. He belongs to the Book Club, History Club and Spanish Club.  His hobbies include History, reading, playing the clarinet and writing.  Jacob plans to major in History in college.

Jacob was recognized by Rose Simar, vice-chairperson of the GOACC Education Committee and by other members of the chamber of commerc.

He received a gift certificate from GOACC for $25, drink of his choice from the Jumping Bean, a gift basket from Lamar State College-Orange which included an MP3 player, a gift basket from Heaven Sent, and an insulated bag from Memorial Herman Baptist Hospital. All the members of his class received goody bags with gifts from several GOACC members.
