Valerie Brown became the Texas high school Women’s Powerlifting Association’s 3A State Champion on March 20 in Corpus Christi. Valerie had a total of 985 lbs. to include a 430 lb. squat, 165 lb. bench and a 390 lb. deadlift.

A back to back regional champion for 2008 & 2009, Valerie set a new regional record with a 975 lb. total, along with winning best squat, best deadlift and best total  regional merit awards. 

Her accomplishments throughout district has included four 1st place wins and three outstanding lifter awards.

 The Bridge Ctiy Lady Cardinals, coached by Kevin Jones, placed an overall 2nd place at the state championship behind Gatesville with the 1st place win by junior Valerie Brown in the 198 weight class, 2nd place finish by junior Alexa Richmond in the 114 weight class, 4th place finishes by freshman Rosemary Truong in the 123 weight class and senior Amy Caillouet in the 181 weight class and 5th place by senior Brittany Meyers in the 132 weight class. Also participating at state level was Ricci Shoemaker in the 105 weight class.
