Jinx Velmina McCoy Reed, 52, of Orange, passed away Friday, March 27, 2009, at her residence after an illness.

A memorial service to celebrate and remember her life will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Dorman Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Chaplain Marv Howland. A gathering of friends will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Jinx was born Feb. 13, 1957, in Homestead, Fla., to Richard Arthur McCoy and Audrey Jean (Bone) McCoy. She had lived in the Orange area for 34 years and worked with her parents as a picture framer with McCoy’s Frame Shop in Orange. Jinx was a very strong lady, she was a good person to talk to and she enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with her family. Jinx also enjoyed painting artwork, ceramics, raising animals and was always willing to do what she felt was right, even when it may not have been the popular choice. Jinx enjoyed many things in her life, but nothing could compare to the love and devotion she held for her family, among her grandchildren she was known as the enforcer.

Jinx is preceded in death by her mother. Those who will most cherish her memory are her son, David L. Dedrick and his wife Danielle of Orange; her companion and her true love, Paul Reed of Orange; her father, Richard McCoy and his wife Martha of Orange; her stepchildren, stepdaughter Stephanie Gerrald Ashworth and husband Keith of Bridge City; stepson, Joshua Reed of Orange; brother, Gary McCoy of Lawrence, Kan.; sister Kay McCoy of Orange; grandchildren, Austin, Ashtin, Alex, Alyssa, Ashley and Kylie; her favorite aunt, Clete Stroda of Lawrence; stepbrothers Mike Reed and his wife Ruthie of Bridge City, Alan Reed and his wife Sandy of Sulligent, Ala.; Bill Reed and his wife Twilene of Orange, Jeff Reed and his wife Marsha of Orange; in-laws Jim and Doris Reed of Orange; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many loving friends.
