Business plans, funding, increasing sales / profits are among the topic at a free seminar and networking event, “Surviving the Tough Times,” from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Capital One’s Bridge City Branch, 2335 Texas Ave.

Other topics include doing business with government and large corporations.

In addition to Capital One, sponsors include SCORE, a nonprofit group of retired business executives; the Small Business Administration, the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce, Capital One’s Marketing Offices and Accion Texas, which specializes in loans for small businesses.

Christy Teague with Capital One said a light lunch will be served. Pre-registration is required by calling 920-3107, or e-mailing Seating is limited.

“This event is presented by SCORE,” she said. “They speak very well on how to get through these tough times … We were lucky enough to get this presentation in Bridge City, because we thought if anyone could benefit it would be not only Bridge City, but all of Southeast Texas.

But the seminar is not just for disaster relief issues.

“If, for instance, somebody doesn’t have a business plan, they can leave this seminar with one.

“[Accion] helps people that might not be able to get funding from banks. An example would be someone who is a good customer, but they’re just starting up a business and may not have a lot of credit to build on.

Bridge City Chamber officials on-hand plan to talk on stimulus grants available to the south Texas area. Other features include breakout sessions, a question / answer session and individual help.
