LC-M spring sports update

Dr. Andy Pate Both the boys and the girls Little Cypress-Mauriceville golf teams won District 20-4A titles on Tuesday, April 8, playing at the Brentwood Golf Course in Beaumont and April 9, when the competition moved to the Wildwood course in Village Mills. Brooke Brasseaux led the Lady Bears over the second-place Nederland Lady Bullogs, with a total of 193 strokes for her two rounds, which also was the best individual score for the two-day event. Nocona Burton finished in third place in individual completion. Rounding out the winning team were Katherine Leggett, Amber Helm and Kristen Garvie.

The top scorer for the champion LC-M boys was Casey Toohey, whose 164 for the two days earned him 2nd place in the individual completion, behind Trend Bowden (160) of Port Neches-Grove. Bear Zach Leggett finished as the third-place medalist. Chris Hodges, Derek George, and Landon Woodard were the other members of the first-place team.

Both girls and  boys will vie in regional completion in Huntsville on April 20-21.

The Lady Bears dropped out of a tie for 1st in the district softball race when they traveled to Nederland on April 7 for a heartbreaking 4-3 loss. They rebounded April 9, however, to hold second, defeating the Lady Lions of Livingston at home, 5-3. Camerie Helm was the winning pitcher, who only allowed four hits while striking out two. Lady Bears play at Vidor April 14.

In baseball, the Bears defeated Port Neches-Grove on April 9, 8-4, and remained in the thick of the District 20-4A race, tied with Nederland in first.

Track and field district completion is taking place this week at Beaumont Central, with running events this Thursday.
