Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School’s Cosmetology Department recently attended the annual Skills USA competition, from which they brought home six first place awards.

The team of Pam Bean, Brittany Wagoner, and Ashley Fontenot won first place in their salon project, as did Ashley Lilly and Summer Parker.

First place in nail art went to Katey Mahison and Sabrina Barr.

Brianna McKee took first in innovative design, as did the team of Danyel Wyatt and Hillary Rutland.

One of seven districts in southeast Texas to offer cosmetology classes, LCM’s students can leave high school as a licensed cosmetologist. Students must accumulate 1,000 clocked salon hours plus 500 academic hours before they can take the State Board Exam to receive their license.  The areas of training in cosmetology include hair, nails, skin care, braiding, and extensions. 

On Thursdays, they accept clients for the following services: shampoo and set – $5; blow-dry style – $5; haircut – $5; up-do – $5; hair color- $10 and up; highlights – $15 and up; perm – $15 and up; chemical relaxer – $15 and up; acrylic nails – $10; fills – $5; facial (basic) – $5; facial (complex) – $10; pedicure – $8; and manicure – $4.
