Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School will hold commencement ceremonies at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 30, at the Beaumont Civic Center.

Veronica Tanay Adams, “Roni” to her friends and family, is the top graduate of the Class of 2009 at LCM. She is the daughter of Clay and Kelly Adams and has one brother, Gages.

She attended Mauriceville Elementary and Middle School before entering High School.

The valedictorian plans are to attend Texas A&M University at College Station and major in Biochemistry.

Kathryn Blackwell was named salutatorian. 

The daughter of Mickey and Norma Blackwell of Orange, will attend Texas A&M University in College Station. She has been accepted into the Business Honors Program and the Texas A&M Health  Science Center College of Medicine’s Partnership for Primary Care Program.

Blackwell was awarded a Texas A&M Lechner Honors Scholarship worth $10,000. She was also awarded Baylor President’s Gold Scholarship worth $44,000, LSU Golden Oaks Scholarship worth $53,996, and a Sasol North America Inc. Scholarship worth $4,800.

Kathryn has been involved in LCM Marching Band and Wind Ensemble for four years-has served as clarinet section leader and been a member of All-Region for three years.  She has also won numerous U.I.L. awards and participated in the U.I.L. State Marching Contest her junior year.  Blackwell has also participated in All- State Baptist Band and will participate in a European tour with the Star of Texas Ambassador of Music Program this summer.

A member of the Honey Bear Drill Team for four years, she has served as chaplain for two years and treasurer for one.  Her sophomore year she participated with her drill team in performing in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
Blackwell has also been involved in the following school organizations: Student Council for four years, Fellowship of Christian Athletes for four years, serving as representative her freshman and junior years, Key Club for two years, National Honor Society Member, serving as representative this year, and member of the U.I.L. Academic Team for two years.

Outside of school, she is an active member of North Orange Baptist Church’s youth program and participates in youth choir.  She has been active in the music program by playing for youth services and worship services.  Blackwell  has participated in youth choir mission trips and taught in Vacation Bible School for four years.

She has been involved in dance for 14 years.

A piano student for 13 years, Blackwell participates in various competitions each year such as Sonatina Festival, National Federation of Music Teachers, U.I.L., and National Piano Guild.  Kathryn was awarded a U.I.L. State Gold Medal for her piano solo in 2008 in Austin at the University of Texas.  She is a nine year member of the National Piano Guild.

Involved in community service, she has served over 400 hours with various organizations including the Red Cross where she has helped with disaster relief and served as a swim aide. Blackwell has worked as a Red Cross Certified Lifeguard at the DuPont Employees’ Recreation Association.

She was chosen for the LCM Honor Pageant her freshman year and has earned numerous academic achievement awards and medals.  She was chosen for the Sophomore of the Year Award by the Kiwanis Club.
