After a long hard year, Bridge City seniors will finish their high school education with graduation ceremonies at 8 p.m., Friday, May 29, at Larry Ward Stadium.

Robert Bradley Weatherholt, ‘Bradley’ to his classmates, is the valedictorian of this years class.

Bradley is the son of Reese and Rose Weatherholt and the grandson of Frank and Eva Hyrhorchuk. He also has two sisters, Janie and Kelli, who are both graduates of Bridge City High School.

During his high school years he has been the captain of the Academic Team, vice president of the Go Green Club, a member in the Spanish Club, Business Professionals of America, and the Chess Club.

Weatherholt is a Principal’s Honor Roll student. He was named the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce’s September Student of the Month and has attended the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference.

A youth officer at St. Henry Catholic Church for two years, he has also served on the Parish Council.

Named a Mirabeau Scholar, Weatherholt plans to attend Lamar University for four years and then pursue a law degree at the University of Texas.

Salutatorian in the Class of 2009 is Grant Allan Encalade. Grant is the son of Joey and Janet Encalade; grandson of Len and Gracie Clark and the late Luke and Dean Encalade: and older brother to Nicole Encalade.

Encalade was named to the Principal’s Honor Roll, served as President of the National Honor Society, is a member of the Spanish Club and an Executive Student Council Member.

Encalade was chosen as the October Student of the Month for the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce.

He was a receiver and defensive back for the Cardinals football team and catcher for the baseball team.

An active member of the Bridge City Church of Christ, Encalade will attend Lamar University as a Mirabeau Scholar and major in chemistry. His goal is to attend dental school and specialize in orthodontics.
