LC-M conducts TAKS test
The exit-level Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test will be conducted beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School, 7327 North Hwy 87 in Orange on the following dates:
July 14, English language arts; July 15, mathematics; July 16, science; July 17, social studies.
Individuals who are no longer enrolled in a Texas Public School and who wish to take the exit level TAKS Test may pick up a registration packet at the LC-M High School Counselor’s office or call Pearson Educational Measurement at 1-800-252-9186. A student can register for the TAKS test online by accessing TEA’s web site at http://k12testing.tx.ncspearson.com/.  Completed registration forms must be received in Austin, no later than 5 p.m. June 13. Registration forms received after this deadline may not be processed.
The Texas Education Agency and NCS Pearson will not be responsible for registration forms that are delayed or lost in the mail. To ensure that individuals are registered, forms should be sent by either registered or certified mail. Questions concerning the exit level test should be directed to the Texas Education Agency, Student Assessment Division at (512) 463-9536.

Senior citizens’ meeting
Orange County Retired Senior Citizens will meet at 10 a.m. June 16. It will be at the Salvation Boys and Girls building on Martin Luther King Jr. Members should bring a covered dish, bingo prizes and soaps for Orange Christian Services. Dance team tryouts
Tryouts for the 2009-10 Texas Dance Expressions dance teams are set for the Rose Thayer Academy of Dance.
The Junior Team (ages 6-10) tryouts will be June 9 from 5-7p.m. Interested students should have at least two years of ballet and tap experience. Junior / Senior Team (ages 10-14) tryouts will be June 9 from 7-9 p.m. These students should have at least three years of ballet, tap and jazz experience. Those trying out for the Senior Team (ages 14 and up) should also have at least 3 years of ballet, tap and jazz and should be present on June 10 from 7-9 p.m.

OCP fundraiser
The Orange Community Players present the sixth annual Broadway Fun for Funds, a night of Broadway showtunes at 7:30 p.m Thursday through Saturday. The production, directed by Brook Doss, features a cast of more than 50 performing classical and contemporary show tunes, and raises funds for building repair and maintenance. Hors d’ oeuvres, wine, and other beverages will be served at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20. Reservations are highly recommended for this popular event, and can be made by dialing 882-9137.

‘Financial peace’ seminars
New Life Church on the Rock will show the video series “Financial Peace University,” followed by discussion groups, on how to manage home finances. Classes will run Sunday’s from from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 12-Oct. 18.
Volunteer discussion leaders Paula and Clint Tacker first attended this program in 2006 and have paid off over $74,000 off in debt over three years. When ask how this happened, Paula said, “When we began learning about budgeting, actually communication and setting goals and practicing skills … Finally even the cars are paid for.” The miracle is that our income was significantly limited beginning June 15, 2006 until now yet we still were able to keep paying bills off. “The peace that comes from having no debt is just amazing. I did not think it was possible.”

Free Diabetes Education Class
Orange County Diabetes Prevention, Awareness and Health Education Program presents Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes class. The classes are for an educational program  for people with pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes. The primary goal is to help participants learn how to manage their blood glucose in the ranges recommended by the American Diabetes Association. The class is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., June 15-19 and 22, at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel Suites off Interstate-10 in Orange.
To receive the full benefit of the educational classes, attendance to all six classes is recommended. The classes are free. To pre-register, call the Orange county AgriLife Extension Office at 409-882-7010. Grant funding provided by Nelda C. & H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation.

Ad space available in BC football programs
Bridge City High School still has ad space available for the 2009-2010 football programs. Business Ads are 1/4 page – $75, 1/2 page – $125, full page $200. If you are interested please call Bridge City High School at 735-1534 and ask for Debbie Gregg. The information is also posted on the Bridge City ISD Website.
Bridge City High School Seniors may still purchase an ad. The deadline for commitment has been extended to June 19.  Students must pay half down for their ad. Student ads are 1/4 page – $65, 1/2 page – $110, full page $185
All senior/business ads are due by Tuesday, Aug. 4, including pictures and ad copy.

Fill the Boot Saturday
Bridge City Fire and Rescue, along with the Ladies Auxiliary, will host a Fill a Boot and Heel fundraiser from 9 am. to noon, Saturday, on the corners of Texas 62 and Texas 87.
Proceeds will go to upcoming conventions and to replace items lost in Hurricane Ike.
