Two varsity cheerleaders from Bridge City High School were selected to attend Cheer Hawaii USA in Honolulu June 25-July 3.

Only 100 cheerleaders from across the nation were chosen to attend this prestigious camp. Bridge City senior, Shelby Richard and junior, Maddy Bray learned cheers, chants, stunts, dances, and leadership skills. Divided into new teams of 12 girls, they learned to work together. Both Shelby and Maddy were chosen by their teammates as leader for their respective group. Shelby’s team was named  “Hoku” meaning “star,” while Maddy’s team chose “Hula Girls.”

Shelby Richard received the Coaches Pick Award from among all the girls attending.

The girls toured the island of Oahu, which consisted of the Polynesian Culture Center, Pearl Harbor and several well known beaches such as Waikiki and North Shore. (Where they have the ESPN surfing contest.)
