Raymond Howard Chandler
“Gone Fishing” Raymond Howard Chandler, 85, of Bridge City died Friday, August 7, 2009 in Bridge City. Funeral services were, Monday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Officiating was the Rev. Forrest Wood of First Baptist Church of Orangefield. A graveside service followed at Antioch Cemetery in Ratcliff.
Ray was born on Jan. 23, 1924 in Turney. He was the son of Wiley Mortin and Maude Lee (Petty) Chandler. He served 21 years as a teacher and director of West Orange-Cove Skills Center. Ray also served in the U.S. Merchant Marines.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Chandler of Bridge City; daughter and son-in-law, Maudine and Stephen Kelley of Bridge City; sons, Kenneth Lee Chandler of Smithville and Glen Hoyt Chandler of Orange; grandchildren, Crystal Wickersham, Lance Chandler and wife, Amy, Jake Chandler, Justin Chandler, and Donna Marie Mather; and great-grandchildren, twins, Caden and Kage Chandler, Taylor Mather, Ethan Mather, and Elijah Chandler.
