Richard Edward Pillsbury, 65, of Orange, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009 at Christus Hospital-St. Mary in Port Arthur. A memorial Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 4300 Meeks Drive in Orange. The Rev. Tom Phelan, pastor of the church will be the celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be held following services at the church reception facility. 

Born on Aug. 28, 1943 in Pepperell, Mass. to Leo John Pillsbury and Ruth Anna (Woodward) Pillsbury, he had lived in the Orange area since 1979, had most previously worked as an ironworker in the construction industry and he had served his country honorably for 23 years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era where he received many decorations. Richard was a simple man who loved life, he often found joy in the small things. He was an avid watcher of people. He enjoyed spending time with and held a deep devotion of love for his family. He often told his children that if he knew that grandchildren were so much fun, he would have had them come along first. 

Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Michael Pillsbury. 

Those who are mourning his passing, yet cherishing his memory are his loving wife and best friend of 45 years, Cecelia “Ceil” Pillsbury of Orange; his daughter, Dawn Abshire and her husband Darren of Orange; his son, Richard Garrett Pillsbury and his wife Amy of Camp LeJeune, N.C.; sister, Arlyne Cassidy of Beverly, Mass.; brother, Leo A. Pillsbury and his wife Diana of St. Albans, Vt.; his sister-in-law, Kathleen Ramirez and her husband John of Aurora, Colo.; grandchildren, Aaron, Joshua, Evan, Alina, Taylor, Thomas, Kennedy and Richard Garrett. Richard is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Cremation arrangements have been provided to the family by Dorman Funeral Home in Orange.
