Games This Week
WEST ORANGE-STARK over NEDERLAND—It’s not supposed to happen this way year-in and year-out, but it seems to usually turn out with the Mustangs on top when the final guns sounds. The ‘Stangs have a lot to live up to this season, and they certainly don’t want to let down the overflow crowd expected at Dan Hooks Stadium Friday night, so we’re picking them with confidence.
BRIDGE CITY over LIBERTY — The Cardinals are going to have to play awfully good for this to happen, but they seem to get better every day and should be ready for the Panther invasion Friday night.
EAST CHAMBERS over ORANGEFIELD — We always have to get at least one prediction wrong so let it be this one. It’s difficult to travel to the rice fields and play against folks who are at home in those places, even though they are a Class 2A school.
VIDOR over BEAUMONT KELLY—The Bulldogs are always scrappy, especially on their home field, but the Pirates should prove to be too big of a load for Kelly to handle for four quarters.
DEWEVILLE over SABINE PASS—The Sharks would like nothing better than to travel north to win their opening game of the season. But the Pirates are a bigger and better team, which the final score should verify.
HIGH SCHOOL — Lumberton over Hamshire-Fannett, Cleveland over Hardin-Jefferson, Silsbee over Houston Davis, Port Arthur Memorial over Beaumont Central, Port Neches-Groves over Barbers Hill, Gilmer over Jasper, Buna over Trinity, Kirbyville over Diboll, Newton over Corrigan-Camden, Anahuac over Kinkaid, Woodville over Kountze, West Hardin over Warren, West Sabine over Colmesneil, Evadale over Beaumont Legacy, Barbers Hill Sophomores over High Island, Hardin over Hull-Daisetta, Beaumont Westbrook over Beaumont Ozen (Sat.)
