Linda Virginia Dunwoody, 55, of Mauriceville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Orange.  A memorial service to celebrate Linda’s life was held Sept. 21, at Silver Oaks Baptist Church on Farm Road 1442 in Mauriceville.  Officiating was the Rev. Ed Rawls, pastor of the church. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange 

Born on Dec. 1, 1953 in Beaumont to Larry Gene and Mary Louise (Shafer) Fort. She had lived in Mauriceville since 1989 and had previously lived in Fannett. Linda worked as a ward clerk with Christus Hospital – St. Elizabeth in Beaumont and was a member of Silver Oaks Baptist Church in Mauriceville.  She was a loving and kind-spirited lady, who will be most fondly remembered for placing others before herself. She enjoyed spending time with her family.  Linda doted upon her grandchildren and she loved each of them in her own special way.  She enjoyed spending time with her animals, which included her three dogs, Sally, Maggie and Brutus as well as her ducks.  

Linda is preceded in death by her parents and those who will most cherish her memory are her loving husband, Ernest F. “Skipper” Dunwoody of Mauriceville; daughter, Robin Coonrod and her husband James of Central Point, Ore.; son, Adam Canty of Mauriceville; stepdaughter, Amanda Dunwoody of Mauriceville; stepson, Andrew Dunwoody of Mauriceville; sisters, Yvonne Munselle of Lumberton and Connie Rice of San Antonio; brothers, Larry Fort of Fannett and Jeff Fort of Beaumont.  Linda is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, Ashley Coonrod, Cassandra Coonrod, Cayden Dunwoody, Raygean Dunwoody, Katie Dunwoody, Kylie Jo Dunwoody and numerous extended family.
