The Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the 2009 Citizen of the Year Award, the Community Service Business Award and the Nonprofit Community Service Award.

All nominations are due in writing no later than 3 p.m. Nov. 13. 

Nominations for Citizen of the Year should include a detailed written resume’ outline of the activities of the person being nominated. Business and nonprofit community service nominations must include the name of the business, its location and details of activities/reasons for the nomination. Awards will be presented at the chamber’s annual meeting Dec. 1.

Guidelines, Citizen of the Year:
• This award will be open to any resident of Orange County, male or female. They may be, but no need be, a member of the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce.
• They should be selected on the basis of their activities during the year for which they are being selected. However, the committee can take into account the activities of the individual over the last five (5) years.
• The award should not be presented to paid professional leaders such as a city manager, county judges and others in this category. If circumstances warrant, an honorable mention could be given to person(s) in this category.
• The nominations are by secret ballot to preserve to enigma of the winner. If nominees are in a runoff , then only the committee chairman, chairman of the board of directors and president will know the results until announced at the banquet.
• Final selection of the recipient of the award will be made by the selection committee. The chairman of the board will select the chair(s) of the committee. The committee chairman will select committee members, with a minimum of five. Committee members are generally past recipients of the award.

Guidelines, Community Service Business Award:
 • The award is open to any business located in the Greater Orange Area.
 • The business may be, but not required to be, a member of the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce
 • The business should be selected on the basis of their activities during the year for which they are being selected. However, the committee can take into account the activities of the business over the last fiveyears.
 • The award should not be presented to any governmental entity, chamber or similar entity.
 • The nominations are by secret ballot to preserve the enigma of the winner. Only the committee chairperson, chairman of the board and president will know the results until it is publicly announced on the designated date.
 • Nominations will be accepted through a specified time period.
 • The selection committee will make final selection of the recipient of the award. The chairman of the board will select the chair for the committee. The chairman will select committee members, with a maximum of five. All committee members should be affiliated with the chamber.
 
 Guidelines: Nonpofit Community Service Award:
• The award is open to any non-profit organization with a 501 (c) 3 tax status located in the Greater Orange Area.
• The nonprofit organization may be, but not required to be, a member of the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce.
• The nonprofit organization should be selected on the basis of their activities during the year for which they are being selected. However, the committee can take into account the activities of the organization over the last five (5) years.
• The award should not be presented to any governmental, chamber or similar entity.
 • The nominations are by secret ballot to preserve the enigma of the winner. Only the committee chairman, chairman of the board and president will know the results until it is publicly announced on the designated date.
