Kaz’s Fearless Forecast
Games This Week
WEST ORANGE-STARK over ORANGEFIELD—Now that the Mustangs have made the state playoffs for the sixth straight season since joining the Class 3A ranks, their chore in this regular-season finale is to stay sharp and avoid serious injuries. The Bobcats certainly will be giving their usual 100 per cent in this rivalry and an upset over the Mighty ‘Stangs would be a huge feather in their hats.
BRIDGE CITY over HAMSHIRE-FANNETT—About the worse case scenario a team could face in the final game of the season when a playoff berth in on the line is to need a victory against a winless bunch that would like nothing better than to get off the schneide and mess up that team’s state playoff ambitions. That is what’s facing the Cardinals in this Friday night finale.
BEAUMONT OZEN over LITTLE CYPRESS-MAURICEVILLE (Sat.)—This will be a true test to see if this team is just the Bears or the Battlin’ Bears. The only difference between these two teams is the fact Ozen still has a mathematical chance for a playoff berth and the Bears can spoil that dream with a solid victory to give their off-season program a jump start.
VIDOR over LIVINGSTON—If the Pirates win this last game of the regular District 20-4A season, they will secure a berth in the state playoffs, which begin next week. However, a win by the visitors could throw the playoff picture into a turmoil, depending on how some of the other games come out Friday.
HARDIN over DEWEYVILLE—This season has been a long, bumpy ride for the Pirates and an upset win would be a great way to end it. But the Pirates must play their best game of the season for that to happen.
MCNEESE STATE over SAM HOUSTON STATE—The Cowboys used the upset of Southland Conference leader SFA by Texas State to move back into a tie for first place in the standings, but the Pokes must continue to play well to maintain their share of first place with the Lumberjacks. The Bearkats may have something to say about this idea.
