BC gathers for community pep rally
The Bridge City Cardinals got a little extra ‘pep’ from the hometown in a community-wide pep rally sending them off into the Region III football playoffs Friday. The event was held in the Wal-Mart parking lot and hosted by the Cardinal Athletic Booster Club.
Bridge City Mayor Kirk Roccaforte read a proclamation that recognized the the Cardinal football team. It also honored the Cardinal Cross Country team that will be competing in in the Class-3A State Championship this Saturday in Round Rock. The proclamation also recognized the Lady Cardinal volleyball team that completed their season last week in the Region III area round of the playoffs.
Nearly 1,000 people gathered to cheer Big Red as the BCHS band played and the awarding winning BC Strutters performed. Bridge City Fire and Rescue brought in sirens and trucks. Children danced with the Cardinal mascot, hugging and kissing the beloved ‘Big Red.’ The booster club sold playoff t-shirts and sweaters to lines of fans.
The Cardinals will be facing the Cleveland Indians Friday night in the Region III bidistrict match-up to be held at Pasadena Memorial High School. Kick-off is 7:30.
