Michael Hoke, director of Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center released the winners of their first Scarecrow Festival which ended over the weekend. “It was a great event, more than 4,000 people attended during the run,” said Hoke. “Over 600 on Saturday.”

First Place in the business category went to Claybar Funeral Home and Floral Shop with “Me Me’s Pumpkin Recycling.” Second Place was awarded to Team J-Scotts with “Botanical Bob.” Orange Savings Bank came in 3rd with “Scarecrow of Liberty”

In the churches category, 1st Place was awarded to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with “Families…Earth’s Greatest Resource.” Second Place went to MOPS of First Methodist Church of Orange for “Mother’s of Pre-Schoolers.”

Orange Fire Department took 1st place in organizations with “Smoke to the Rescue.”  Second place was claimed by Orange County Retired Teachers with “Ima Educator” Coming in 3rd was the Orange County Texas Exes with “Recyling Fever.”

In schools category, 1st place went to Little Cypress Junior High Art Class “Headless Horseman.” Presbyterian Day School claimed 2nd with “Presbee” St. Mary Catholic School Art Class came in 3rd Place with “Vincent Van Scarecrow.”

Families category  was won by Wayne and Alice McCray with “Mr. McScary” Second place went to Cynthia Bates for “GAIA (Earth Mother).” The Roush family took 3rd Place with “Autumn Audrey.”
