The City of West Orange will host its annual Christmas Tree Lighting

Celebration at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 30 at the West Orange Community


The public is invited to a festive evening of Christmas activities.

Orange County Judge Carl Thibodeaux will be reading “The Cajun Nitght

Before Christmas,” followed by carolling, lighting of the City

Christmas Tree and a visit with Santa.

The community center is located at 2700 Western Ave. in West Orange. Use the rear entrance.

Athena Award Nominations
Nominations are now being accepted for the ATHENA Award, which will be presented on Dec. 1, 2009 at the annual meeting of the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce to an exceptional individual who has achieved excellence in her/his business or profession, has served the community in a meaningful way and assisted women in their attainment of professional goals and leadership skills.
The ATHENA Award was first presented in 1982 in Lansing, Mich. and has grown to include presentations to more than 5,000 individuals in hundreds of cities in the United States as well as in Canada, China, Russia and the United Kingdom. The award takes the form of a hand-cast bronze sculpture symbolizing the strength, courage and wisdom of the recipient.
Orange believes in the values underlying ATHENA’s philosophy of incorporating the talent and expertise of women into the leadership of our businesses, our communities and our government. The spirit of the ATHENA Award Program is captured in a quotation from Plato, “What is honored in a country will be cultivated there.” By honoring exceptional leaders, others will be encouraged to excel.
The ATHENA Award Program is locally underwritten by Orange Savings Bank.

GOACC to hold annual banquet
A 50’s style sock-hop will be the theme of the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce banquet, scheduled for 6 p.m., Dec. 1 at San Damiano Center – St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church located at 4300 Meeks Dr., Orange, TX
Citizen of the Year, Non-Profit Community Service Award and Community Service Business Award winners will be honored.

Bengal Guards to meet
The Lutcher Stark Bengal Guards, years from 1935 to 1944 will have their monthly meeting Friday, Nov. 20. The meeting will be at the Magnolia Tea Room at 11 a.m.
All members please plan to attend.

Chili lunch at St. Mark Lutheran
St. Mark Lutheran Church in Bridge City will host a chili lunch from 10:30a.m. till noon, Wednesday, Dec. 16. Chili will be served with rice, fritos, cheese, onions and a dessert for $6 per plate.

Christmas at the Browns
The 4th Annual Christmas at the Browns is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 7 at Lamar State College Brown Center, located at 4205 Park Ave. off Strickland.
Tickets are $3 in advance, $4 at the door.

LCM presents “Just Another High School Play”

The Bear Stage Players of Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School will present their 2009 fall production, “Just Another High School Play” by Bryan Starchman, at 6:30 p.m.. Tuesday, Dec. 1 and Thursday Dec. 3.  There will also be a Saturday matinee, at 3 p.m., Dec. 5  in LCM’s auditorium.
This comical play shows how a particular group of theatre students cope with one of the play’s most important elements nowhere to be found. It will make you laugh till you cry. The show is directed by Melissa Johnson.

BC Chamber accepting applications

Bridge City Chamber of Commerce is now accepting resumes for the Chamber Director position. Applicant must be outgoing and detail oriented, have good management and computer skills as well as strong, communication and organization skills.  Some travel required.  High School Diploma required.  Pay up to $24,960/yr based on experience.
