Mattie H. Turner, 101, of Beaumont, formerly of Vidor and Athens, Texas, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, at First Baptist Church of Vidor under direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor.

Mrs. Turner was born June 29, 1908, to parents Walter and Willie Bristow Hubbard in Henderson County. She married George Henry Turner, a teacher, on Oct. 21, 1928. They were both active in the education field in Henderson County, and later for many years in Vidor. Mrs. Turner was an Orange County precinct chairman and was named Orange County Senior Citizen of the year. She was an employed for many years to run the Vidor unit of the Orange County Senior Citizen meal program.

Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her husband George Henry Turner, in 1977 and her son, Roy Turner, in 2001. Also preceding her in death were her parents and nine brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Turner is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Larry and Carolyn Turner of Beaumont, a daughter Royce Turner Heickman of Trinidad, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Vidor, 410 N. Main St., Vidor, 77662. The family expresses gratitude to Dowlen Oaks, the Clairmont, Dr. Ronald Palong and staff, and the nursing staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Jefferson County Nursing Home and Harbor Hospice House.
