The Orange County Relay for Life will hold a kick-off event Thursday, Jan. 21 for “Re-Lei for a Cure: Island of Hope.’”

Plans will be presented and information shared regarding the 11th Annual Orange County Relay for Life, an American Cancer Society signature event, which is scheduled for Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1 at the Bridge City High School Football Stadium.

The RFL fundraiser event offers everyone in the community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. The Orange Country Relay is 12 hours. It will begin Friday evening April 30 at 6:30 p.m. and last until Saturday morning, May 1 at 6:30 a.m.

It allows a community to grieve for those lost to cancer and to celebrate the lives of those who have survived.

Relay teams are generally comprised of eight to 15 members. Each team member is required to raise at least $100. Teams may fundraise individually or as teams.

Last year, Orange County Relay for Life teams raised more than $150,000. Collectively, Orange County Relay events have raised more than $850,000 to help Orange County cancer patients.

The 2010 Orange County RFL Event Chairperson is Kerri Morrell. Heather Clayton and April Grant are co-chairmen.

Individuals may sign up Relay for Life teams or gather information about how to build a Relay team for the event at the Relay Kick-off event Jan. 21. It will begin at 6 p.m. at the Bridge City Community Center, off Roundbunch Road, in Bridge City.

All interested individuals are invited to attend. For more information contact Kerri Morrell at; or Jacki Burleson at 835-2139.
