Bridge jumper possibly ID’d
Orange sheriffs believe they know the name of the man who jumped from the Veterans Memorial Bridge around 10 a.m. on Jan. 1. His body has not been found. Deputies responding to the scene said after the victim hit the water, he seemed to be trying to swim. However, as Bridge City and Port Arthur fire departments were en route, he was swept under the waves.
According to sheriff’s spokesman Chad Hogan, a van believed to belong to the victim was found and towed to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
“Our investigation has led us to believe the victim is George Raymond Trenholm,” 56, of Spicewood, Hogan said. “The exact identity of the victim will not be able to be confirmed until the victim’s body is recovered and able to be positively identified.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Orange County deputies at (409) 883-2612.
