The Mardi Gras on the Sabine Krewe of Krewe’s Parade, sponsored by the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday – a traditional Mardi Gras Parade with illuminated floats, decorated trailers and Krewe members tossing beads, cups and trinkets.

The parade starts at the corner of Green Avenue and Simmons Drive then winds its way through the historical streets of downtown Orange (including Second, Fifth and Eighth streets and Front Avenue).

Five streets were added to the route this year to make the parade larger, said the chamber’s Julia Myers. The addition includes a pass by the Orange County courthouse, she said.

“We hope everyone will come out an ‘catch’ the excitement,” she said.

To take part in the regalia, applications are available on the chamber’s “event page” at, calling the chamber at 883-3536 or send an e-mail to

Earlier this year, at the seventh annual Mardi Gras Krewe of Krewe’s Mardi Gras Ball, Ross and Eva Smith of Krewe du Bayou were named King and Queen.

Mardi Gras T-shirts are still on sale by the chamber with the 2010 theme of “Love Makes The World Go Round.” T-shirts are two for $25 at the chamber office, 1012 Green Ave. Call 883-3536 to place reserve orders.
