Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School hosted the District Cross-Examination Debate tournament recently for the area 3A and 4A schools.

The Orangefield High School teams of Robert Ehrlich and Elana Newell, Constance Ingram and Leah Matlock, and Nicolette Schreier and Chris LaChance competed for the opportunity to go to state. There were a total of 17 teams in the tournament and only two have the privilege of advancing.

For 3A, the Bridge City team of Jake Dionne and Caleb Banken achieved the honor of placing first and Orangefield’s team of Robert Ehrlich and Elana Newell placed second. Both teams will be competing in the state tournament on March 15-16. Third place was the team of Jason Broussard and Jacob Worthington from Bridge City and fourth place was the team of Leah Matlock and Constance Ingram.

The third place team is considered the alternate for these rounds and they will advance to state if either one of the top two teams are not able to go.
