Amelia Jean Swearingen, 87, of Orange, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010 in Sulphur, La. after an illness.  A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27 at Dorman Funeral Home in Orange.  Private interment will take place in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.  

Born on Jan. 17, 1923 in Charleston, W.V. to parents, William A. Garrett and Mayme A. (Thompson) Garrett, she lived in Orange since 1947, had previously lived in Port Arthur, she was of the Methodist faith and a homemaker.  

Jean is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Ray Swearingen; sons, Bruce D. and  Craig S. Swearingen; and numerous brothers and sisters.  

Those who will cherish her memory most are her sons, Stephen K. Swearingen and wife, Carol of Houston and David S. Swearingen of Orange; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
