Honeywell representatives presented a $2,500 grant to Little Cypress Junior High on Friday for a project that will help expose students to the environment and enrich the curriculum that they already experience in the regular classroom setting.

The program, “Honeywell, Live from the Field with LCJH,” will provide opportunities for students to visit several sites throughout Southeast Texas on Saturday field trips. Students must meet certain criteria to earn a position on each individual field trip and are responsible, upon their return, for producing a bulletin board, video, poster, or model to describe their experiences.

The first trip was scheduled for Shangri La in Orange on Saturday, March 20.  Students made observations at the beehive; toured the gardens, epiphyte house and greenhouses. They also examined soil permeability, took a boat ride  and and studied water chemistry.

Students  journaled and participated in a scavenger hunt as they explored  the gardens.
