Ralph K. Wilkerson, 89, of Orange passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 1 at Dorman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Dorman Cemetery in Orange. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home. 

He was a native of Fair Banks, Texas; born on June 16, 1920 to parents, George Wilkerson and Ella Mae (Skagg) Wilkerson. He had lived in the Orange area for 70 plus years. He served his country in the Army during World War II by the demolition of equipment and structures such as bridge, railroads, and caves. He enjoyed working as a carpenter and welder; retiring in 1983 while working for BF Shaw as a welder through L.U. 195.

He enjoyed woodwork after retirement; making swings and furniture. When he was able; Mr. Wilkerson loved to garden and share his vegetables with friends, neighbors and family. He also enjoyed helping anyone in need with a kind word, a bit of advice or grabbed a board and nails helping them make needed repairs to their home. 

Mr. Wilkerson was a lifetime member of the Orange Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He was also a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church in Orange. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris Irene Wilkerson; daughter, Sandra Jean Menard; sisters, Zita Heart, Wanda Lee Jordon and Rowena Lee Wood.

Mr. Wilkerson is survived by his son, Stacy  A. Wilkerson and his wife, Stephanie of Orange; grandchildren, Mark, Ruth and John Fouts, Justin Huff; great-grandchildren, Sarah Wilkerson and Mary Menard; and nephew, Darrell James Wood.
