Magic Cookie Bars
Well, now they say chocolate is good for you. After all of these years, you have felt badly about eating this good old fattening chocolate. Now they say OK, go ahead and eat.
But only the dark chocolate. I always thought of the color brown as dark. Not so, I guess, when talking about chocolate. So I bought some M and Ms, some small Hershey bars and a bag of chocolate covered peanuts. Some how I don’t think that is what they were talking about.
My father lived way into his 80s and I guess that was because he always had a bag of chocolate candy in his pocket.
He always parked his truck on the market square and stood on the corner of the downtown square of Athens, Texas so he could watch his truck that was always full of furs in the winter. He would buy the trapper’s furs, then he would ship them to the buyers.
You would always find him standing there unless he was making a deal with a trapper. I assume it was because on the corner was our biggest drug store and they had a large glassed in candy counter.
You could see all of the candy that they had for sell. They also had loose peanuts and for a penny, you could get a glass full of peanuts.
I know that because papa would give me a dime to go to the show and it only cost nine cents, so I had a penny that I could spend all on myself. I could get a small glass of raw peanuts for a penny.
When I had spent my penny, I’d go to papa for more money or some of his candy. However, he never did let go of his candy.
