Formerly of Orange

Johnelle Armstrong, 75, of Cushing, Texas and formerly of Orange, died Sunday, April 18, 2010 in Lufkin. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 21 at the Lilly Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Hall and the Rev. Sonny Scarborough officiating. Burial will be in the Nat Cemetery near Cushing under direction of Dickie Allen Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home in Cushing.

She was born Aug. 29, 1934 in Orange to John Henry and Thelma Edleman Peveto. Mrs Armstrong lived in Cushing for the last 16 years and was a member of the Lilly Grove Baptist Church. She had also lived in Orange for many years and had been a member of the Old First Orange Baptist Church.

She had worked as a correspondent and columnist for the Orange Leader newspaper for several years and had been a member of the Christian Women’s Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Weldon Peveto.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Del Roy Armstrong from Cushing; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Cheryl Armstrong of Orange; brother and sister-in-law, Jerald and Elaine Peveto also of Orange; and two grandchildren, Cameron and Jonathan Armstrong

Serving as pallbearers will be Phillip Benard, Jimmy Sparks, Bill Rhodes, David Teague, Ray Estes and David Roberts

Memorials may be made to Lilly Grove Baptist Church in Nacogdoches or Hospice in the Pines in Lufkin.
